Trump’s Border Crackdown Crushes Records

For all the media outrage and political theater, the numbers at America’s southern border are telling a story the left would rather bury: President Trump’s immigration policies are not just working—they’re rewriting the playbook.

New U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data obtained by Fox News shows record-low illegal border crossings in June, with only 5,414 apprehensions from June 1 to June 22. In a dramatic turnaround from the Biden-era chaos, the numbers reflect a drop so steep it’s bordering on miraculous. Just a year ago, apprehensions stood at a staggering 118,000 in May. This May? Under 9,000.

But it doesn’t stop there. The number of “gotaways”—illegal immigrants who evade capture—has plummeted to just 986 during the same June period. That’s a daily average of 46, down from Biden’s 2023 average of 1,833. The busiest crossing point remains El Paso, but even that corridor has seen a significant decrease.

This is more than just better enforcement. It’s a full-scale reimagining of how immigration is handled, from both the practical and psychological angles. Trump’s administration wasted no time overhauling Biden’s lax framework. The CBP One app, once a de facto asylum shortcut, has been scrapped and replaced by the CBP Home app—a tool now used to encourage voluntary deportation. It even offers $1,000 in travel aid to non-criminal migrants who self-deport. Critics call it cruel. Americans call it effective.

Under White House border czar Tom Homan, ICE and DHS have also ramped up arrests and deportations of those with serious criminal records. Their messaging focuses relentlessly on safety: removing threats, reducing chaos, and reclaiming control from drug cartels and traffickers. Even the northern border, which saw its own surge last year, recorded a 95% drop in illegal activity in March.

Predictably, protests have erupted in progressive cities like Los Angeles, with activists accusing the administration of “militarizing” immigration enforcement. Some demonstrations turned into riots earlier this month. But if there’s one thing this administration has made clear, it’s that public tantrums won’t dictate national policy. Trump’s focus remains on results—not optics.

And the results are undeniable. Even some Democrats are privately acknowledging that Biden’s porous policies left the nation more vulnerable, not more compassionate. Trump’s team has reversed that damage with a strategy that combines strong deterrents, efficient deportation pipelines, and a heavy dose of political will.

Meanwhile, the administration is pushing hard to codify these gains. The reconciliation bill working its way through the Senate includes border provisions that would expand ICE manpower, increase detention bed capacity, and further restrict entry pathways for high-risk individuals. It’s a long-term vision with immediate payoff.

While the media clutches its pearls and academics issue dire warnings about international “image,” the American people see what matters: a secure border, a functioning system, and a commander-in-chief who isn’t afraid to do what works.

In short, President Trump is doing what his predecessor never could—restoring sanity to the border and proving that leadership, not slogans, is what truly delivers results.
